30th Anniversary Banquet and Celebration - Saturday, October 25, 2014

On Saturday, October 25, 2014, GAPSN celebrates 30 years of pride and service to the gay API community at our 30th Anniversary Banquet and Celebration.  For three decades, GAPSN has provided support and a safe space for members of our community.  Please help us mark this milestone and join us as we look back on GAPSN's history of fun and accomplishments and look ahead to how GAPSN's proud tradition of support will continue in new and exciting ways.

SPECIAL NOTE: In recognition of GAPSN's 30th anniversary, the cost of this year's banquet has been deeply discounted!  (See details below.)

The evening will feature a nine-course Chinese banquet and plenty of opportunities to reconnect with your GAPSN friends, both old and new, and other members of the community.
 
The Peter J. Corpus Educational Grant will be presented to a young person who has demonstrated an exceptional record of service and commitment to the betterment of the API LGBT community.

2014 Peter J. Corpus Educational Grant - Application Period Open

GAPSN is now accepting applications for its 2014 Peter J. Corpus Educational Grant.

 

GAPSN will award up to two grants in the amount of $1,000 to students who have made outstanding contributions to the Asian American/Pacific Islander lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (API LGBT) community and who plan to continue their community involvement and advocacy after graduation.

 

Prospective applicants can download the 2014 application form on the Upcoming Events page.
 

To be considered for the grant, please submit your application package consisting of the following:

 

-   The fillable application form which has been completed in full

-   Copies of transcripts (either official or unofficial) from each educational institution listed in Section 2 of the application

-   A personal statement on a separate sheet that addresses the subject matter described in Section 6 of the application

-   Applicants may also (but are not required to) include a resume or curriculum vitae of no more than one page

Completed applications should be returned to gapsn@gapsn.org no later than Friday, October 10, 2014, at 11:59 p.m. (PDT).

 

The Peter J. Corpus Educational Grant was established in the memory of Peter J. Corpus, a long-time advocate for the API LGBT community and leader in GAPSN who passed away in 2010.

GAPSN Celebrates LGBT Pride at LA Pride Parade - Sunday, June 8

GAPSN continues its 30th anniversary festivities at LA Pride on Sunday, June 8!  Please join us in the GAPSN unit as we parade through the streets of West Hollywood and celebrate 30 years of pride and service to the gay API community.

As in previous years, we expect a few smokin' hot special guests and lots of music, dancing, and merriment!

DATE & TIME

Free pre-parade breakfast from 9:00 a.m.
Parade steps off at 11:00 a.m.

PRE-PARADE BREAKFAST (9:00 a.m. - 10:30 a.m.)
A yummy and fortifying FREE breakfast will be provided for everyone who participates in the GAPSN parade unit. It's also a great opportunity to socialize with all the other marchers in our Asian Pacific Islander Pride Council contingent. The breakfast will take place at:

Parking: Please park on the street. Arrive early for best parking in the neighborhood. Permit parking restrictions will be lifted during Pride weekend.

Parade Step-Off:  The breakfast will conclude at 10:30 a.m. and we'll proceed to the parade staging area from there.  If you are unable to make it to the breakfast by 10:30 a.m., please proceed directly to the staging area at Santa Monica Bl. and Crescent Heights Bl. and ask for Asian Pacific Islander Pride Council.

DRESS
GAPSN t-shirts will be provided FREE at the breakfast.  All members of the GAPSN parade unit will be asked to wear these t-shirts during the parade. 

MEDIA EXPOSURE DISCLAIMER
A few things to consider before you participate in this "public" parade: if you (1) are NOT OUT, camera-shy, or hate the paparazzi that you think follow you everywhere, (2) may have difficulty walking for the 1.5 mile parade route or are uncomfortable with heat or loud noise, or (3) have issues with personal space because it gets really crowded, this may not be the event for you.  Otherwise, please join us for this fun and memorable occasion!

Mardi Gras Kick-Off & Membership Party - Saturday, March 1, 2014

Join GAPSN for a fun-filled kick off to the Mardi Gras festivities with music, masks, feathers, and -- of course -- beads!

Re-connect with long-time GAPSN friends and meet new ones in a safe and supportive environment.  Dinner (including chicken jambalaya and vegetarian gumbo - mmm!) and Mardi Gras party favors will be provided.  Arrive by 8:00 p.m. to participate in our GAPSN member icebreaker - prizes will be awarded.  BYOB, . . . but please remember to drink responsibly!

Join us as we celebrate nearly three decades of service to the Los Angeles gay and bisexual Asian Pacific Islander (API) community at our annual Anniversary Banquet & Pacific Bridge Awards and recognize a special group of honorees who have made extraordinary contributions to the API LGBT community with the presentation of GAPSN’s Pacific Bridge Awards.
 
This year, GAPSN is honored to present Pacific Bridge Awards to the Reverend Mark M. Nakagawa of Centenary United Methodist Church and to GAMeBoi.
 
Plus, GAPSN will debut the Peter J. Corpus Educational Grant Program, established to honor the memory of one of GAPSN’s most respected leaders who passed away in 2010.  The inaugural Peter J. Corpus Educational Grant will be presented to a young person who has demonstrated an exceptional record of service and commitment to the betterment of the API LGBT community.
 
As always, the evening will feature a ten-course Chinese banquet and plenty of opportunities to reconnect with your GAPSN friends, both old and new, and other members of the community.

GAPSN Bingo and Fundraiser at Hamburger Mary's - Wednesday, September 4

Join your GAPSN friends and other bingo fans for what Los Angeles Magazine calls the “Best Gay Bingo!” There will be 10 rounds of bingo . . . but this ain't your grandma's bingo. It's played loudly and with lots of enthusiasm thanks to a hilarious drag queen hostess and fun prize packages. And it’s all a charity event benefiting GAPSN!
 
This event is open to everyone and is a very mixed and diverse crowd, so make sure to bring your friends and spread the word!

Summer Pool Party with GAPSN

GAPSN starts off the summer with one of its most popular events of the year... the annual Summer Pool Party and Barbecue! This year's party will take place on Saturday, July 20, from 12-6:00pm at Clive & Sang's beautiful home at Mt. Olympus in Hollywood Hills.

Sun and fun, music and merriment - the boys really come out for this one, so don't miss it!

GAPSN Pet Pride Day

GAPSN is going to the dogs!  Join us for a relaxing and fun morning with our favorite canine friends.  Bring your favorite toys.  The spacious park has areas for both large dogs and small dogs.  It also has picnic tables for us to relax while we watch our babies play.

This is a free event, open to members and friends, whether you have a dog companion or not!

Please only RSVP "YES" if you're actually marching with GAPSN so that we can get an accurate head count.

If you arrive after 10:30 a.m., please proceed directly to the parade staging area at the corner of Santa Monica Blvd. and Crscent Heights Blvd. The parade starts immediately at 11am. Once we start moving, it's hard to catch-up.

Sunblock, hat, comfy shoes, hand sanitizer, camera and extra cash (it's $25 to enter the official Pride Festival booths) after the parade is over.

Is your inner diva dying to hit those stratospheric octaves in public?  Then join us at GAPSN Gay Karaoke for a fun casual and relaxed evening of singing and partying with other like divas!  This is a house party so there's no need to sing if you don't feel like it.  There will be plenty of snacks, libations, and good company to make the evening fun in and of itself.  Please bring your own beer, liquor, wine, whatever! Please drink responsibly.

Cover:  No cover!!  It's a house PARTY!!!!  
However if you are feeling generous, a suggested donation of $5 would be appreciated to the party Gods.
