GAPSN Member, Noel Alumit

Noel Alumit has been a GAPSN member for many years. Also, for the past nine years, Noel has worked for the Asian Pacific AIDS Intervention Team working to improve the lives of gay Asian men. Noel Alumit was born in the Philippines and earned his Bachelor degree of Fine Arts in Drama from the University of Southern California and studied playwriting at the David Henry Hwang Writers Institute at East West Players.

His first show "The Rice Room: Scenes from a Bar" explored the lives of gay Asian men. The Rice Room won critical acclaim, including named on of the best shows of the year by the San Francisco Guardian and played to sold-out houses in Los Angeles, San Francisco, Boston, Philadelphia and other cities. His second show "Master of the (Miss) Universe" was named "Best Bet" by the LA Times and will be produced in San Francisco in October.

Noel has been published in "Take Out: Queer Writing from Asian Pacific America," "Tilting the Continent: Southeast Asian American Writing," "DisOrient," and the "Asian Pacific American Journal." His first novel "Letters to Montgomery Clift" is about endurance and hope, a tale of growing up, coming out and going home.
