GAPSN Member, Andre Ting
Updated Mar 2002 Andre' Ting grew up in Hong Kong and Malaysia. He received his higher education in Brazil and in the U.S. After getting his master's degree from the University of Texas at Austin, Texas, he came to live in Southern California. Mr. Ting is a tenured instructor in a community college district. He has been a community leader for over 20 years. In 1980, he was a founding member of Asian Pacific Lesbians and Gays, the first Asian gay organization in California. In l990, he became a board member of Que Viva! (VIVA), a gay Latino performing artists group. He belongs to GLADE, a gay staff organization in a large California community college district. He was chair of the Chinese Rainbow Assn. for the past 2 years. Mr. Ting is co-chair of the Gay Asian Pacific Support Network (GAPSN). Mr. Ting also speaks Mandarin, Cantonese, Shanghainese, Spanish, and Portuguese.
